Ashe County’s On the Same Page Literary Festival (the "Festival") is a celebration of reading. To bring this celebration to you takes hard work, sponsors and supporters, especially our Page Turners. This group is simply interested individuals who love the written word, and we’d like you to join us this year—again or for the first time. Here’s a look at what’s in store in September 2019.
Our line-up of authors includes some new faces and some Festival favorites, including Diane Chamberlain, PT Deutermann, Elliot Engel, Georgann Eubanks, Robert Gipe, North Carolina Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green, Ronni Lundy, Beth Macy, AJ Mayhew, Alan Michael Parker and Stephanie Powell Watts. WHEW! We’re sure you agree—a stellar group! And, they are bringing A Mountain Medley of reading to our special corner of the world Tuesday, September 17 through Saturday, September 21.
In addition to readings, workshops and discussions, you’ll have an opportunity to enjoy lunch with one or more of our authors at a Lunch with an Author event. The Festival Read this year, Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America, by Beth Macy, will offer timely and important discussions about the opioid crisis that started in Appalachia and is sweeping the country. The Open Book Discussion will be held on September 17 and Beth Macy will share her personal thoughts and insights on Friday evening, September 20.
We hope you are as excited as we are!
Now, back to where you come in. This Festival wouldn’t happen without support from people like you who love to read and appreciate the cultural and economic value reading brings to our community. Will you consider donating? Just send your contribution in any amount (Thanks in advance for your generosity!) and you will join the ranks of the Page Turners who faithfully help us make our Festival one that attracts best-selling authors year after year. For your convenience, we’ve enclosed a donation card and a self-addressed envelope. By becoming a Page Turner, you are invited to a special breakfast hosted by our Festival committee on Saturday morning, September 21, at the historic Ashe County Arts Center. In addition, our Page Turners will be recognized as a group throughout the Festival.
